Every design begins with
understanding rather than drawing.
Quick sketches help me simplify complex site conditions, identify opportunities and reveal relationships between topography, vegetation, movement and people before proposing interventions.
Sketching allows me to explore
multiple possibilities without committing too early.
By drawing different layouts, spatial sequences and planting ideas, I can compare alternatives and gradually discover the most appropriate response for each site.
Hand sketches communicate atmosphere in ways
technical drawings cannot.
They help describe how people may experience a place, allowing ideas about movement, planting and public life to be discussed before detailed design begins.
Every sketch records a design decision.
Looking back at previous projects allows me to evaluate what worked, what changed and what could be improved, making reflection an essential part of my design process.
